Brazilian Bikini Wax: What to Know Before You Go

Have you ever wanted to get a Brazilian wax but were too chicken to actually do it? Me too! But I did, and now I'm gonna tell you that it's not scary at all.

Getting a Brazilian wax is a popular way to get rid of pubic and booty hair. The process involves applying warm wax to those areas and then swiftly pulling it off to get rid of the hair. It might be a bit uncomfortable for some because, let's face it, that skin is sensitive. But most people think the results are totally worth it for that long-lasting smoothness. Just make sure to go to a pro to make sure it's done safely and as pain-free as possible.

I went to see the professionals at the European Wax Center near me and I couldn't recommend them enough.

The Prep

I'm impulsive. I always have been. Even this blog was made on an impulse. So, being who I am, I booked a Brazilian wax appointment on a Thursday afternoon after mulling it over for months. I'd been considering it on and off for years, technically, but I'm also a fan of the full bush look.

Anyway, I booked the appointment and obsessively Googled for the next 36 hours about what I should do to prepare, what I should expect, and what the risks are, which can be summed up by: no exercise, no swim, no hot tubs, no canoodling, no tight clothes, and no touching. Easy enough.

Being a thick girl, I was never keen on seeing an aesthetician for fear of judgement. Maybe my brain is stuck in the 2000s when being even slightly overweight would mean constant ridicule and ugly ass clothes, etc, etc. But it's 2024 and we don't give a fuck anymore.

When I got the waxing center, it was very clean and the front manager was very nice. She assured me that it wouldn't be that bad. I have tattoos and piercings, so it shouldn't be terrible, right? Waxing is much less permanent than a nose ring or a flower on my arm.

When I was called back into the waxing rooms, the aesthetician was very nice. She turned her back while I pulled my shorts off and hopped up on the table. She worked fast. Very fast. The whole thing was over in about 20 minutes.

The Brazilian Wax

Like I said, the entire waxing experience was about 20 minutes. The wax was warm but not uncomfortably so. I thought it would be really hot, for some reason. The aesthetician was very calming, telling me exactly what she was doing at each step so I could stay comfortable and know what's happening. I found it kind of funny that we were having a conversation about where we were from while she was eye to eye with Miss Kitty., but I guess when that's your job then you probably don't give a fuck what anyone looks like.

The Pain

Despite this section being called 'the pain', it really wasn't that painful at all. I would rate the height of the pain at maybe a 3, but then it stops almost immediately. Despite the warnings, each pull caught me by surprise. The easiest of all the pulls was the booty, which is what I was told by the manager up front.

It's been well over 24 hours since I've left the waxer's building and I've not had any bumps, pimples, or rashes, not to mention any residual pain at all.

The Aftermath

Once that 20 minutes was up I was on my merry way. I had worn loose shorts per Google's recommendations and I didn't feel much pain or soreness throughout the day. The one thing I was worried about was sweating since it's been around 95 degrees every day here for the last few weeks (yay climate change), so unless you're sitting inside all day, sweating is unavoidable.

Getting a Brazilian might sound scary as hell at first, but I promise you, it's not bad at all! If you prefer being hairless, they're definitely the way to go. Shaving takes forever and who really wants a razor in that area? And Nair isn't made for skin of that nature.

I don't care if you're skinny, fat, or everything in between; you will be fine and if you hate it, you don't have to do it again. It's just something fun to try!
